NOTABLE CHARM

In 1898, William and Myra Odor built the "Old Round Barn" along what would eventually become Route 66. A one of a kind design, the truly round barn is an architectural feat, attracts visitors from across the country to admire the craftsmanship. A second popular Arcadia destination is Pops! An architectural wonder of its own, this modern designed structure is a gas station, old school burger joint, and soda pop wonder all in one. Boasting over 600 unique sodas from around the globe, Pops! is the highlight of many trips down Arcadia's stretch of the Mother Road.

COMMUNITY BACKSTORY

Arcadia, Oklahoma was given a post office by the federal government in 1890 and was a thriving agricultural community with cotton as the primary cash crop. In 1924 the town suffered an overwhelming loss, as a fire destroyed all the buildings on the east side of Main Street, many of which were never replaced. Disaster again struct in 1974 when a deluge of rain washed out many of the area roads and bridges. The loss to the railroad infrastructure was so great that the trains stopped running to Arcadia altogether. However, the small community has persisted, and in 1987 was officially recognized by the State of Oklahoma as an incorporated town.
