THE COMMUNITY OF YUKON
A Budding Suburb West of Oklahoma City
Yukon is a suburban community of Oklahoma City, situated on the eastern side of Canadian County. Situated between Historic Route 66 and Interstate 40, this budding small town has access to all the amenities of the Oklahoma City Metro.
Yukon has experienced a population boom, growing more than 15% over the last decade. Low unemployment, a median income of more than $63,000, and a median home price of $170,000 this is a great place to call home and raise a family. Easy access to major transportation routes, such as Interstate 40 and Historic Route 66 allow Yukon to have a small-town feel with big-city amenities.
With a historically large Czech population, Yukon is home to one of Oklahoma's largest ethnic festivals each year. The Oklahoma Czech Festival features music, costumed dancing, a parade, and traditional Czech cuisine. History is important to the community, and the Yukon Historical Museum has preserved much of the area's history for future generations.
Yukon was founded as a railway town in 1891, and by 1898 had attracted a large Bohemian population, which has contributed to the town's rich Czech cultural heritage today. The proximity to local farmland caused Yukon to thrive as an urban center for area farmers, and two large grain mills in the city have provided grain throughout much of the region since before statehood. The town's population grew steadily until the decades following the 1960s saw the population grow by more than five times.
Yukon has thirteen public schools ranking among some of the best in the state and region. Yukon High School offers students an abundance of extracurricular activities from sport to fine arts, and with high test scores and low student-to-teacher ratios, this is a great school system to be part of.
Music lovers can enjoy the Concert in the Park series throughout the summer months, while the history enthusiast will love the local Czech festival and Yukon Historical Museum. Close proximity to Route 66 and Interstate 40 means all the activities and amenities in the Oklahoma City metro area are just a short drive away.
Get your fill of Yukon restaurants like Vacca Territory Creamery & Coffeehouse - Craft coffee and small-batch Italian ice cream, Big Dick's Roadhouse serving American-inspired foods and beer, and Green Chili Kitchen Route 66 with Mexican-inspired cuisine.
